Inclusion and the 2016 Count Me In Rally
I Choose Dignity’s
Count Me In Rally
Focuses on Inclusion
in Waterloo Region
Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region has a proud history of bringing a variety of I Choose Dignity events to the Waterloo Region. In each instance, we strive to make make a commitment to ourselves and others to see, appreciate and encourage the gifts we and others have. Through the I Choose Dignity movement, we hope that people begin to realize their own magnificence and that of others. We hope we begin to recognize people and places that choose to see and engage differently. And we hope to encourage others to do the same.
This year’s Count Me !n Rally is a chance for individuals, families, businesses, agencies, associations, and any other community supporter to rally together, promoting a new and inclusive story. Together, in a sea of purple, we publicly declare our intention to afford dignity to all. We walk out our intention to celebrate together, for there is much to celebrate. People who have been excluded and seen as less than are taking their rightful place, alongside us. They stretch a hand into the air and declare, “I have so much to share!”
And so we walk. We walk in solidarity. We walk in celebration. We walk in encouragement. We walk in hopefulness and optimism. And we walk to join a growing movement. One that is not specific to developmental services, but is more global than that. This movement is of people and places, here in our very own Waterloo Region, who think that relationship is paramount. Who know that we can do better by all of our citizens.
Join us. Join all of us.

About Kim Sproul: Oh hey! Glad to virtually meet you! Coming from the perspective, and I quote Margaret Wheatley here, “Whatever the problem, community is the answer”, much of my writing involves connecting an individual (ANY individual) to the broader community. This is how I approach life at home, at work and all those other places I like to spend time. Community, in it’s messy, complicated, ever-changing wonderfulness, is where I prefer to direct my energies.
