TIFS (Trying It On For Size) KW

What is TIFS KW?

TIFS KW program is a new support initiative by EAFWR, designed to help adults with developmental disabilities gain the skills necessary for independent living.

This program is in partnership with Community Living Elmira.

Who is the Program For?

The program is aimed at Passport recipients and fee-for-service users. Participants will receive personalized support and coaching in daily living activities through in-person guidance provided by the TIFS KW Direct Support Person (DSP).

How Does It Work?

1. Assessment & Goal Setting:
Each participant undergoes an intake & assessment to identify their specific needs and goals related to independent living.

2. Personal Support Plan:
A personalized support plan is developed for each participant, outlining clear goals and action steps. These plans focus on daily living skills, such as cooking, financial literacy, and the use of technology for independence.

3. Direct Support:
The TIFS KW DSP provides in-person support to help participants work toward their goals, offering coaching, problem-solving, and resources tailored to their individual needs. The DSP will meet participants regularly to assist them in implementing strategies, accessing resources, and tracking progress.

4. Evaluation & Adjustment:
The program is flexible and adaptive, with regular check-ins between the DSP, participant, and the 2RL Program Coordinator to evaluate progress and adjust the plan as needed.

What’s the Benefit of Taking Part?

• Skill Development: Participants learn practical skills to increase their independence, which may reduce their need for full Supported Independent Living (SIL) services.
• Proactive Support: By participating, individuals can avoid waiting until a crisis to develop essential living skills.
• Confidence & Independence: Participants gain confidence and skills that can lead to greater self-reliance, reducing the need for future emergency placements.
• Ongoing Guidance: With regular one-on-one support from the DSP, participants receive the guidance and resources they need to develop and maintain real progress toward independence.

When Does This Program Take Place?

The program operates on an ongoing, flexible base. Sessions and meetings between the participant and the DSP will be scheduled weekly, tailored to individual needs. There are no fixed “sessions”; support is provided continuously, adapting to the participant’s progress and circumstances.

How Many People Can Participate?

The program can accommodate a roster of participants, with capacity determined by the availability of the DSP and other support staff.

How Can People Sign Up?

Participants can be referred to the program through their Support Coordinators at EAFWR, or they can self-refer if they are supported by EAFWR. Please fill out the form in the sidebar with your details and include who referred you to TIFS KW.
