March 2026 Days of Significance
The month of March brings us four important observances: Disability Day of Mourning, International Women’s Day, Eid ul-Fitr, and World Down Syndrome Day. Below, you’ll find information on each, along with resources and community events to engage with.
Disability Day of Mourning – March 1
On March 1st, we pause to honour the lives of disabled individuals who have been murdered by caregivers—often family members—due to ableist beliefs that devalue disabled lives. These tragedies expose the systemic failures that allow such violence to be excused or minimized. Disability Day of Mourning is a stark reminder that disabled lives are full, worthy, and deserving of protection, autonomy, and dignity.
At the same time, we recognize the countless families and caregivers who devote themselves to supporting their loved ones with care, love, and advocacy—often in systems that fail to provide adequate resources. Their work is critical, and their efforts deserve recognition and support.

International Women’s Day – March 8
This year’s International Women’s Day (IWD) is an opportunity to recognize the contributions, resilience, and leadership of women within our organization and beyond. In 2026, we’re honouring the global call to “Give to Gain,” celebrating how investing in women strengthens our communities, and embracing the UN theme of “Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women and Girls,” which reminds us of the ongoing work needed to advance equity for everyone.
