Working Adults Learning Empowering Skills (WALES)
Sandeep’s Story

Sandeep has been coming to WALES for the past four years
Sandeep has been coming to WALES since 2017. Before Sandeep was connected with WALES, she had little connection in the community where she was independent and able to use her gifts. She now continues to be an honest, organized, decisive and focused woman who is determined to create a life built around her gifts and joys.
She has been dedicated to her work at Maurita’s Kitchen for two years. She has developed her skills in the kitchen and works as a part of their team to make food for the Queen St. Commons Cafe and for the various catering orders on a bi-weekly basis. She is working towards making this a weekly experience to increase her skills and strengthen the relationships she has built.
Sandeep has also been working at The Green Door for two years. It all started with her stylish flare and a tour. She thought that she might like to work there, so she started and just never stopped. Sandeep helps organize the store, and works on the inventory which consists of the pricing and restocking of items. This job fits well with her organized and focused personality, as well as the need of the workplace. Sandeep is striving to make this a weekly job in her life and build more of a routine to maintain her skills.
In August 2019, Sandeep had an interview at the A.R. Kaufman YMCA, and shortly after the interview she started to work in the laundry room. She took to the job quickly and needed minimal job coaching from WALES. She is now a confident and independent member of the YMCA team and is open to building more skills and adding more tasks as time goes forward.
While Sandeep has many jobs that keep her busy, she has found a nice work/life balance. Sandeep is an avid puzzler, so whether she is puzzling at WALES with others or in the community at the Grand River Stanley Park Library Puzzling Group she is building puzzles and friendships together. Sandeep also goes on the city bus with groups or takes Mobility Plus to the St. Jacob’s Market, bubble soccer, different cafes or to the YMCA for a workout. By going and exploring the community she is able to belong by sharing her gifts, contributing, and building relationships.
