Nominations now open for The $500 Maria de Boer Changemaker Award!

Submission deadline extended to May 31, 2018

Do you know someone in Waterloo Region with lived experience of disability? Someone who has made or makes a worthy contribution to others in some way? Someone who is a changemaker in their community, even though they may not know it?

We are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for The $500 Maria de Boer Changemaker Award.

Maria de Boer, who retired in October 2017, was the Executive Director of Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region (EAFWR) for nearly 35 years. Under her direction and guidance, inclusion and belonging became touchstones for the initiatives and services provided by EAFWR. Maria encouraged curiosity and thoughtfulness around questions such as: who makes inclusion happen, and, how do communities truly welcome and value all?

EAFWR believes that we are all essential to inclusion, and that those who have been excluded from areas of community life know better than anyone what it takes to build an inclusive community. If you know someone who has has made a positive impact, we want to hear from you!

Please see the nomination package for further details and award criteria. Nominations can be made using the form below or via email to kates@eafwr.on.ca. The submission deadline is May 31, 2018.

Should you have any questions, please contact Kate Swift at kates@eafwr.on.ca or 519-741-0190 ext. 302.
