July is Disability Pride Month
Dear EAFWR Community,
Every July, Disability Pride Month celebrates the identities, culture, and contributions of people who experience disability. It’s a time to challenge ableism, honour the diversity of disability experiences, and reflect on what pride, visibility, and inclusion mean in our communities and workplaces.
While the month originated in the U.S. in 1990, marking the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Canada continues to embrace this celebration in growing and meaningful ways. In 2023, Ontario passed Bill 128, officially recognizing Disability Pride Month province-wide.
Disability Pride is not about overcoming disability – it’s about owning it, being visible, and recognizing disability as a natural and valuable part of human diversity. It also means confronting barriers, stereotypes, and systems that continue to marginalize disabled people with intersectional identities.

Let’s take this opportunity to learn, listen, and celebrate and to keep working toward a world where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.
