Celebrating Habitat for Humanity Waterloo Region’s “Build Now” Project
On Monday, December 2nd, City of Waterloo Council unanimously approved the next steps of the Build Now project, using a parcel of land on University Avenue East to develop a major affordable housing project. Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region is thrilled to see this project move forward. Through a partnership with Union Cooperative Housing, we will have access to 10 affordable apartments for people who use our services, with support provided by Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region.
With 389 people on the Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) registry for Supported Independent Living in Waterloo Region, we know the demand is immense. We continue our efforts to help people access stable, accessible housing they can afford, while relying on ODSP, which significantly limits the housing options that are affordable. Kudos to the City of Waterloo staff, Council, Mayor McCabe and to Habitat for Humanity’s team and partners, including Union Co-op.
Let’s build a community where everyone belongs!
Yours in community,
Allan Mills
