May the 4th…

Star Wars fans everywhere were sending a “May the fourth be with you” wish across the Twitterverse and beyond today. My first “May the fourth…” came with a text just before 6a.m. from someone I didn’t think knew what 6a.m. was.

I saw “the fourth” in action today during a lunch with Cathy Brothers, executive director of Capacity Canada. She shared with us a story from her time with the Catholic Family Counselling Centre in which she sought to bring Bill Clinton to Waterloo Region as part of a fundraising initiative.

Cathy’s story was captivating – she spoke about not only being bold in risk taking, but how pivotal support from peers is to the success of those bold risks. We heard about heroes who stepped up with their advice when asked, ideas when inspired and help whenever it was needed.

From ticket sales to a sofa sale (the one Bill sat on!), the fundraiser brought in much-needed revenue as part of the centre’s capital campaign. It also makes for one amazing lesson in the importance of being courageous – in how we dream and how we collaborate.
