November 21st, 2013
On Wednesday, September 25 we had our first annual Match Celebration. We honoured workers and the individuals they support that have been matched for 5 years or more. We had 154 workers that were invited to be honoured.
Fifty-four workers attended and we had just fewer than 100 people in total. We had a wonderful evening for a BBQ at our WALES building. Each worker was celebrated with a speech from their Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region Coordinator and given an EAFWR pin.
At the Celebration were two workers that have been working with Extend-A-Family for 25 years and over; Theresa Heibein and Salema Martin. The Reist family has also had an individual living with them through our FamilyHome program for 29 years. It is truly amazing how many workers we have that have remained dedicated to Extend-A-Family and most of all to the families for so many years.
We have recently formed a worker committee at Extend-A-Family and one of our first orders of business was to honour the workers that are an important part of our work. We were excited to have such a great turn out for our first event. The committee is looking forward to the next Worker Celebration in 2014.
