Apartment Respite
About Apartment Respite
Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region (EAFWR) has an exciting new opportunity for people who have their Passport Funding (18+ years old) managed by EAFWR to spend time away from home at a local apartment.
How It Works
Apartment Respite is designed to fit your needs as you spend time away from home with a support provider. Maybe one of your goals is to move out one day. Maybe you’d like some time away from roommates or your parents or siblings. Maybe you want to learn what it’s like to live with a roommate. Whatever the reason, we’re here to support!
Here’s What We Offer
Planning: An Extend-A-Family (EAFWR) Program Coordinator will meet with you to start planning your time away from home. You choose:
- Length of stay, and
- An apartment that suits your needs, and
- An activity plan.
How It Works
Booking: Once the plan has been created, the EAFWR Program Coordinator will book your apartment.
Support: The Program Coordinator will search and arrange a match visit with an EAFWR Provider so you can meet them ahead of time. You’ll get a chance to tell them about yourself, the activities you’d like to do together and plan meals together. They will tell you about who they are too! If you’re already connected with an Extend-A-Family Direct Support Person (DSP), you may use them if they are available.
Cost: $100 per calendar day
