Ontario Developmental Services Need #5ToSurvive
This is an effort led by Community Living Ontario to urge the province to provide cost of living increases to our budgets. The message addresses the cost of living increases we’ve seen over the last 30 years and the flatlined budgets we have been working with.
There are several Developmental Services Organizations in Ontario that are currently struggling with major deficits. We are fortunate that we have managed to continue to work within our available resources, although we did end the March 2020 fiscal year with a significant deficit. Services have been eroded and wages have not kept up with inflation.
This initiative is asking the provincial government to provide a 5% increase, recognizing the rising costs we have all been facing. This increase is requested for transfer payment agencies like Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region, as well as for Special Services at Home (SSAH) and Passport budgets.
We participated in a letter-writing campaign, sending a letter to our local Members of Provincial Parliament. In our letter we also asked for a 5% increase in funding to start to address the massive residential waiting list that exists for adult residential services in our region and across the province.
How you can help
We received this notice from Community Living Ontario:
We now have a postcard campaign which can be shared through your networks, with families and people supported. It will auto fill the letter.
The campaign is now live!
I would encourage you to participate in the postcard campaign. It takes only a couple of minutes to enter your name, email address and postal code into the form. Nearly1,400 postcards have already been sent.
