A Good Place to Be

By: Becky Klokoff, Community Engagement & Donor Specialist

If you had told me in 2002 that I would still be working for Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region(EAFWR) in 2021, I would not be surprised one bit. Shortly after I began working for EAFWR, I knew this place was something special. Being surrounded by a group of like-minded, passionate, caring and fun people was something I was attracted to – but that was just the bonus. The true lure was in the culture and the work of the organization. Being part of a movement that adopted a person-centered approach and saw the gifts in others, had a strong belief that inclusion needed to start at the community level, and was built on commitment to building relationships – this was a place I wanted to be.

Fast forward 19 years later and I still feel the same! Watching EAFWR adapt and face challenges through the years has been an adventure. Many things have changed, but one thing that remains constant is the emphasis and focus on relationships; with those we serve, their families, our community, and with each other. This is what sets us apart and allows us to be a part of positive change in our community.
