Neighbour’s Day and Ball Hockey building community

Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region’s Community Development team has hosted community-driven ball hockey tournaments for several years, but 2017 was special.

Our Neighbourhood Community Connector, who works closely with four neighbourhoods in Waterloo Region, has a very strong relationship with Stanley Park. Because of this great connection, EAFWR was invited to partner with the City of Kitchener and the Stanley Park Community Centre to celebrate Neighbour’s Day!

Now in its third year, Neighbour’s Day is part of the #livelihood strategy, created with the intent to help people connect and work together to do great things in their neighbourhoods.

Neighbour’s Day is a chance to celebrate, with parties hosted by volunteers through the region, on the second Saturday of each June. This year, the City of Kitchener hosted over 40 different Neighbour’s Day activities, from street parties to outdoor movies and guided walks.

The collaboration between Stanley Park Community Centre, City of Ktichener, Stanley Park Community Association and Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region was a perfect fit! We hosted over 12 teams and had hundreds of SPCA neighbours attend a fun-filled day of friendly competition and community building.

A day filled with music, food, friends and activity, we are already looking forward to next year!

Mark your calendars: Neighbour’s Day 2018 is on June 9th!
