Epilepsy Advocacy and Awareness
EPILEPSY ADVOCACY & AWARENESS:
Epilepsy is a health condition for which a lot of stigma is still associated. This may be due to the unfair way people with epilepsy have been treated historically and a lack of understanding about the health condition. Canada officially adopted Lavender as the awareness colour for epilepsy. The Lavender flower was chosen because it traditionally represents solitude -- symbolizing the feelings of isolation and seclusion that people with epilepsy often face. Our goal is to educate the public about Epilepsy in a manner that allows the "silence" to be heard. Here are the questions that we strive to answer within our training sessions:
1. What is Epilepsy?
2. Can I "get" epilepsy?
3. Does Epilepsy close doors to friends, jobs, marriage, and children?
4. First Aid for Epilepsy
5. What services are available?
