respiteservices.com

  • The CHAP Program connects people with disabilities and CHAP workers through a Family Registry and a Worker Bank
  • It helps families connect with and hire independent CHAP workers
  • People who are approved for Special Services at Home (SSAH) are able to use the CHAP Program
  • The CHAP Program has a CHAP Coordinator who helps families find and sign up CHAP workers
  • The CHAP Program is a web-based service through the respiteservices.com website
  • The respiteservices.com website has information about agencies in Waterloo Region who serve people who are developmentally disabled
  • Respiteservices.com cares about your privacy. Information that is given is protected and only used to connect families and possible CHAP workers, share information and periodic updating

The CHAP Program will be available through respiteservices.com beginning July 5th.

At first EAF will be spending time 'building up the worker bank' over the summer. During this time families will also be able to register, with the understanding that the 'matching process' (providing families with worker information/profiles to choose from) will begin closer towards the end of the summer or early fall.

Family Registry

Families register on the computer or by mail using printed forms.

Families give basic information about the needs of the person being supported . Families also are asked about what they are looking for in a worker (skills, experience, when he/she is able to work, etc.)

Families receive information about CHAP workers from the CHAP Coordinator, based on their criteria, as workers become available. CHAP worker information/profiles cannot be seen by families directly and CHAP workers cannot see family information/profiles.

If families are interested in a CHAP worker they will connect with the CHAP worker directly. Families are also responsible to interview, hire, train, schedule, supervise and pay CHAP workers.

It is important to know that families independently hire and contract directly with CHAP workers.

Worker Registry

Workers who are interested in supporting
people with disabilities in the community are recruited to form the worker bank.

Workers complete the online registration,
giving details about their skills, experience and when they are able to work. CHAP workers must hand in their resume, a police check, two references and attend a mandatory Activation Meeting before they can be hired by families as CHAP workers.

Possible CHAP workers' information/profile sheets are shared with a family when the CHAP Coordinator begins a search for a family.

Workers on the registry are not acting as
employees of the CHAP Program or
Extend-A-Family and are self-employed workers.

*CHAP workers are considered self-employed, and they are not employees of the CHAP Program or Extend-A-Family - they are working privately for families.
