What is EAFWR's Mandate?
Extend-A-Family Waterloo Region is committed to enhancing the well-being of people with mental and/or physical disability and their families by:
- building partnerships;
- encouraging the development of friendships and relationships;
- promoting inclusive community that ensures the full rights of all individuals.
Who does EAFWR serve?
EAFWR serves people who are developmentally challenged and their families, through the Respite Program, Special Services at Home, and the Summer Program. The Familyhome Program, Passports and the WALES Dayprogram serve adults who are developmentally challenged.
What geographic location does EAFWR serve?
EAFWR serves the Region of Waterloo.
Where is Extend-A-Family (EAFWR) located?
The Extend-A-Family office is located in a wonderful building adjacent to Mount Hope Cemetary at 91 Moore Ave. in Kitchener.
What is EAFWR's budget?
The annual budget is approximately $5,000,000.
How is EAFWR funded?
For the most part, (about 98%) EAFWR is funded by the Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS). Funding also comes through the United Way, the Federal Government, CODA, the Maycourt Club, donations and fundraising efforts.
Does EAFWR get audited? Is the audit open to the public?
EAFWR has an audit done each year. The audit report is available to the public.
Does EAFWR have an Annual General Meeting? Is it open to the public?
Yes, EAF does have an Annual General Meeting. It is usually held in the spring and is open to the public.
How many people work for EAFWR?
EAFWR has 30 salaried positions. This includes full and part-time staff. As well it uses the services of approximately 600 SSAH workers, 150 Respite Providers and 25 Familyhome Providers.

What is EAFWR's organizational status?
EAFWR's is a registered non-profit charitable organization. It is incorporated.
How is EAFWR governed?
EAFWR is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Who are the Board Members?
There are up to 15 Board members. Members may be family members of persons who EAFWR serves or community members who are interested in EAFWR and are able to offer a variety of skills and talents necessary for Boards.
How may Board Committees are in existence?
EAFWR presently has 4 standing committees. They are Executive, Membership/Nominating, Finance/Fundraising, and Policy, Evaluation and Planning. These committees are ongoing, and are mandated by the Bylaws of the organization. As well, EAFWR currently has two AD Hoc (as the need arises) Committee, including Personnel and Risk Management.
What are some of the most important roles for EAFWR Board members?
One of the most important roles for Board members is that they are the "keepers of the vision" making sure that EAFWR is staying true to its mandate, values and principles.
