- I am the mother of a 10 year old boy living with Asperger's Syndrome. My son was diagnosed 6 years ago. It has been the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. My goal is to help make the world a better, kinder, more accepting place for my son and others on the spectrum. It is such a vast spectrum that I would like to help develop innovative ways for people to connect who have similar strengths, needs and challenges. I volunteer at my son's school working with children on the spectrum who are falling behind in curriculum because they don't qualify for adequate EA hours. I work with them in a one on one or small group setting to help them understand and complete work. Also, I am a SEAC representative for Autism Ontario for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. I have been invited by a DSRC Children's Service Coordinator to accompany her to client's homes who are dealing with a diagnosis of Asperger's Syndrome. I provide mentoring and support to these family members.I love living in this community and will continue to strive to make it a supportive, inclusive, happy environment for these extrordinary individuals.
